As Founder of Once A Man Twice A Child Home Care, Courtney James is passionate about improving the quality of in-home care and wellness services for older adults, disabled individuals, and others who need home care services in Florida. This led her to design an integrated service approach with a whole-person perspective that considers the intellectual, emotional, social and physical needs of each individual.
Courtney's experience includes approximately a decade in the field of social services working in the government sector, most recently as an Attorney with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) Children's Legal Services.
During her career, she also served as a child welfare case manager with DCF and as a Care Coach Coordinator with Humana serving the elderly and disabled population, where she oversaw the wellbeing of seniors placed in skilled nursing facilities and assisted living facilities while providing case management service to detect and prevent abuse, neglect and exploitation. Courtney holds a Bachelor in Social Sciences from The University of the West Indies, and earned her Juris Doctorate from the Western Michigan Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
Zhinga comes highly qualified and credentialed as a board-certified Pediatric Advanced Practice Provider. Zhinga's experience includes working in primary care and with the State of Florida Child Protection Services.
Zhinga's experience includes having approximately 17 years of combined nursing practice.
Makeda brings her experience as a Human Resource professional and a decade of experience in geriatric care to her role at Once A Man Twice A Child Home Care and is responsible for onboarding new and experienced talent. She is a strong leader with a passion for developing talent and guiding teams to deliver high quality services. Her passion for caregiving originated from personal experience. Makeda, while a teenager, observed her mother struggle to provide personal in-home care to her grandmother who suffered from diabetes and later developed dementia. Makeda recalls becoming a caregiver herself at a tender age. She recognized the importance of caring for the elderly and helping them age at home.
Makeda's experience includes working with the vulnerable population. She worked in the field of child welfare with Safe Children Coalition and most recently as a Mental Health Forensic Specialist working with individuals suffering from severe mental illness. Makeda also holds a bachelor's in Human Resources. and a masters in Comparative Politics.
